In most instances, my standard commission rate is 5%, for full service. This includes a buyer’s agent fee of 2.5%, which gets paid to the buyer’s agent’s company, and 2.5%, which goes to my company (Oregon Realty). For homes under $150k, the fee is 6%. For homes $600k and above, further discounts apply.
Lots of people want to know what the standard, average, or typical fee is for a real estate transaction. Due to possible anti-trust possibilities, I cannot comment on what is average or typical of other Realtors. I can only tell you what I charge, but I can tell you that I have heard from many clients that they have been quoted a lot more than 5%.
You may also find Realtors that work for less. These are sometimes referred to as “discount” brokers. Make sure that you are clear on the what services they are offering. This may or may not include helping you price the property, negotiate the contract, fill out the listing, take pictures, open houses, etc. They should have a fully detailed marketing plan that you get when you interview them. Compare them side by side so that you are clear on what exactly you are getting for your fee.
